Digital Image License

The information on this page provides a general overview of licensing terms and usage rights. However, the applicable terms for any purchase are those presented during the photo gallery checkout process, including the Terms of Sale and the Digital Image License. In the event of any discrepancy, the checkout terms take precedence.


All digital images sold or given away on this website, and in any photo galleries hosted on this website, are exclusively for personal use, unless clearly marked otherwise.


For all publications, whether digital or print, images must be credited as ‘Peter Aglen / aglenphoto.com’. This requirement applies to all uses where crediting is technically possible.


Restrictions (all licenses)

  • Images may not be resold, sublicensed, or distributed to third parties.
  • Images may not be used in a misleading, defamatory, or unlawful context.
  • Images may not be significantly altered without prior agreement (cropping and minor adjustments, such as colour and contrast, are permitted).
  • Images may not be used for training, developing, or improving machine learning or AI models.
  • Images may not be incorporated into trademarks, logos, or service marks.


Any use outside the scope of the purchased license requires prior written approval and may incur additional fees.


Personal use license

Images sold for personal use may be used for private, non-commercial purposes only (e.g., personal sharing and private prints). Commercial, promotional, or editorial use is not permitted.


Personal use includes non-commercial use in swimming clubs, for example publishing in social media and on the club's website, as well as for use in invitations and presentations. Sharing digital images with partners and sponsors is considered commercial use.


Personal use includes:

  • Publishing the image on personal accounts in social media (with image credit).
  • Publishing the image on personal websites (with image credit).
  • Using the image in invitations, presentations and the like (with image credit).
  • Printing the image for personal use, for example for decoration in your own home.


Personal use does not include:

  • Using the image commercially or editorially. This includes profiling of one's own person in a commercial context (for example in collaboration with sponsors).
  • Selling or passing the image on to third parties, including sponsors, partners or the media. Family or other close relatives are exempt.


Editorial use license

The editorial license applies to a single publication, in its print and/or online edition. Reuse within the same publication is permitted (e.g., as an archive image). The license does not allow sharing the image(s) with other publications within the same media group.


Editorial license for images already photographed (effective 01.04.2026):

  • NOK 400 per image when licensing one image.
  • NOK 350 per image when licensing two images.
  • NOK 300 per image when licensing three or more images.


Norwegian VAT (25%) will be added where applicable.


Certain photo galleries on this webpage may provide the option to directly purchase an editorial use license for images. In this case, the prices are listed directly in the gallery, and may differ from the prices shown here.


Editorial use must be agreed in writing with Aglen Foto, unless the license was bought directly in a photo gallery on this webpage.


Missing license or missing image credit

Editorial use of images without a valid usage license will be invoiced in accordance with the recommended minimum rates for freelance photographers in Norway. As of 4 April 2025, the rate for one-time use of an already photographed image is NOK 3,620 (plus VAT). Failure to provide proper credit will be billed at the same rate, regardless of whether a valid usage license has been obtained.


If both a valid usage license and proper credit are missing, the total fee will be twice the recommended minimum rate.


Commercial use

All forms of commercial use must be agreed in writing with Aglen Foto. The cost of commercial use depends, among other things, on image resolution and the desired degree of exclusivity. Email peter@aglenphoto.com for more information.
